The good news about carpet and asthma

As a well-informed consumer, you may heard about the common confusion that people have about carpet and allergies.

To prove that there is no evidence to suggest that the removal of carpet is beneficial to asthma sufferers, Stainmaster® has created a handy fact card to put allergy sufferers at ease.
Titled ‘The good news about carpet and asthma’, the card contains scientifically proven facts about carpet such as the following:

• Removing carpet from your home will not reduce overall dust mite allergens in the air.
• Despite dramatic drops in carpet sales in Sweden from 1975 to 1992, analysis shows a significant increase in the reported numbers of allergic reactions during the same time period.
• More recent studies have indicated that asthma and respiratory symptoms were fewer when carpet was present in the home.
• Well-maintained carpet may improve indoor air quality, because it acts as a trap for airborne allergens and other particles that are deposited in it. These are then removed by normal vacuuming and periodic deep cleaning.
• Carpet can reduce slips and cushion falls relative to hard surfaces.
