Carpet styles, Carpet range - Cut pile carpet

Cut Pile Carpet

Often referred to as "plush" pile, cut pile carpets are usually finished with a smooth velvet surface that is often considered the ultimate in luxury. The tufts of the carpet are cut to create a uniform finish and because the pile can lean in any direction, reflecting light, they can show temporary shading from footprints or vacuuming. This feature, known as "sueding" or "foot marking", is either a bane or a bonus and should be considered carefully before buying a cut pile carpet.

Twist Pile Carpet

A cut pile carpet but the fibre has a higher twist as compared to a cut pile plush carpet and also a random kink that causes the pile to stand slightly in different directions. This directional effect reflects light differently and gives the carpet surface a mottled appearance, although all the pile fibres are exactly the same colour. The advantage is a more interesting look, and a carpet that is less prone to foot marking and showing the vacuuming marks that a cut pile plush carpet will show.

As well as concealing soiling better than a plain carpet, a pattern can be used as a decorating tool to make a spacious, open room seem cosier and closer. Pattern match must be considered when choosing this style of carpet.

Carpet styles, Carpet range - Patterned cut and loop

Patterned Cut & Loop

In this style the carpet pile is made up tufts of fibre that are either cut or uncut. Uncut appears as loops of fibre. The placement of loops in the cut pile form patterns, with a definite repeat that should be considered when laying lengths side to side. This style of cut and loop is then printed with a pattern.

Carpet styles, Carpet range - Textured loop pile

Textured Loop Pile

Also known as multi level loop pile, this style is made from 100% loop pile tufts of fibre, none of which are cut. This makes for very good wear performance. The pattern is formed by using loops of various heights, which also give the carpet a textured (not smooth) surface.
